Well done!! To get band 8 in writing, you need to produce English with only rare errors – this is essential. I don’t know what you mean about a specific format. You can have either two or three body paragraphs. Linking needs to be appropriate. All sentences should be unique to yourself and not contain learned expressions, such as “This essay will discuss …” or “there are advantages and disadvantages to this issue”.
In writing pert one I had to describe a table and two bar charts about number of doctors in Australia, they were divided by gender and place of birth.
The second part of a writing task was a discussion essay about whether parents should teach their children to recycle or it’s a responsibility of school administration.
Think about getting my advanced lessons for writing task 2. They are very detailed and explain in depth the right techniques: . However, you will still need to focus on writing an essay free of grammar or vocabulary errors.
Thank you so much Liz for all the resources you’ve provided on your website, especially your lessons and model essays for writing task 1. Also, thanks for the useful tips for each section, as they really helped me familiarize myself with the exam format and the techniques I had to use during the exam.
Thanks for this very useful website.
I recently completed the IELTS test in UK and my temporary results are 9,9,7,9 (7 in Writing).
For the writing section, the task 2 was an essay about “Does the advantages of machines outweigh the disadvantages?”. I went with yes in my introduction, 2 paragraphs with 2 different advantages (with an example in each one) and a conclusion but I didn’t mention any disadvantages.
Kindly advice on the following:
1. Do you believe that I was penalised (task incomplete) because I didn’t talk about disadvantages?
I’m 100% confident that I met the word count and my grammar was accurate.
2. Would you recommend going for a remarking of the writing section?
A tip to all IELTS applicants – reserve 5 mins towards the end of each writing session to ensure you check the essay for any spelling mistakes and improvisations. During your practice sessions, plan accordingly

You are a gem. I just followed your blog/youtube sessions and scored 7.5 in IELTS (academic) held on 26th Aug 2017. Detailed score as follows:
I know that score of writing module is not up to the mark and I could have scored more. I didn’t practice writing even a single essay, however, I followed your strategy (paraphrasing, overview, logical structuring, use of clauses, vocabulary and passive voice, use of brackets for putting data, word limit etc) in the main exam religiously and scored the minimum required threshold.
I practiced 3 tests (excluding writing) from IELTS 11, which was borrowed from a friend.
I was also lucky because, in Speaking test, examiner discussed the topic of dreams, which is already mentioned in your blog.
What I have observed is that IELTS is not only about English language but also about strategy. A perfect blend can help you achieve best scores.
Thanks a lot Liz. You are amazing. I have already started recommending your lessons to my friends.I owe this success to you. Thank you very much.
