Writing a first novel that doesn’t represent too much of an economic gamble for a publisher makes it so much easier for the publisher to say “yes.” Later, when you’ll hopefully have a proven track record (in terms of book sales), you can write your novels to whatever length you want.
While they admit that tradional family members on both sides are perplexed by their wait time, Rachel Sussman, New York City-based therapist and relationship expert, is on their side: "It's good for couples to know each other for at least a year to two years before they get married. This gives you plenty of time to get to know each other to secure the foundation and the friendship."
The Sacred Grove of Oshogbo was one place I had been looking forward to visiting in Nigeria. As prevalent as indigenous religions still are in West Africa, it is often hard to find public expressions of them in towns and cities; the Christianity brought by European slavers and colonialists has taken root and pushed most of these religions out of mainstream life. But in the Sacred Grove shrines honor all the local deities, including Obatala, the god of creation, Ogun, the god of iron, and Oshun, the goddess of water, whose aqueous essence is made manifest by the river running through the trees. The place is unique in the Yoruba religion, and that intrigued me.
Okay, it’s obviously more complicated than that, but you get the idea. 80-100,000 words is the “sweet spot” from an economic point of view, and it’s the novel length that readers expect – so if your book is significantly longer or shorter, you may put off your reader from buying it…

Recognizing this problem, some camera manufacturers do offer digital SLR cameras with 24 mm x 36 mm field size, however the larger sensors are more expensive. Figure 2 shows how sensor cost increases with diagonal dimension. The equation used is the Poisson relationship, which is the most commonly used model for silicon die cost. The Poisson relationship describes the expected number of defects in a chip of a given size, based on some average number of defects per unit area on the wafer. The plot in figure 2 shows that die cost increases rapidly for very large die area approaching the 35 mm image sensor format size (defect assumptions being held constant).

Read Jeffrey Tayler's "The Sacred Grove of Oshogbo" (first published in , used with permission) and try to determine exactly at what passage in the text do you become aware of the point of Tayler's essay. Take note of the rich detailing of the forest, the caretaker, and the minister from the city and try to describe how the details lend themselves toward the purpose of the article. Another Atlantic essay, Jeff Biggers' filled with wonderful details of a remote town in Mexico is also available here.
In my courses I emphasize essay answers to examination questions. Some questions are designed for very short answers and others for longer, more complex answers. The questions range in scope and complexity, which is why different questions require answers of different length. Regardless of this variation in length, all of the questions are really "short-answer essay questions" because no single question requires you to write for 2-3 hours.
Comments: This essay shows you the organisation of ideas into paragraphs and also how a clear answer is given in the thesis statement in the introduction and then supported and explained in full throughout the essay. You will also see paraphrasing for advantage / disadvantage language which can be useful for you in other essays. Furthermore, the word length of this essay is typical for anyone aiming for band score 6, 7 or above. Words 280
So what is the average length of an engagement? By celebrity wedding planner Shawn Rabideau's definition, it's ten months — the ideal length, in his opinion, to plan their dream ceremony without overplanning and obsessing. Michelle and Daniel, who dated on and off for 10 years ("two adult years," clarifies Michelle) before getting engaged. Below is a table of measurements from 69 two-handed great swords from the 16th century in the famed Austrian arsenal of Graz (K. Kamniker and P. Krenn, p. 139-152). Note that the average weight is less than 8 pounds at an average length of 67 inches. The weapons in the collection range up to 5 pounds difference in their weight. The lightest weapon, a slender blade, is just over than 3.3 pounds (at roughly 57 inches long) while the heaviest, a large and elaborately hilted piece, is no more than 13 pounds (at about 78 inches a long):
One historian states, "The true two-handers really did require two hands, though their overall weight averaged only about 8 to 10 pounds. With blades of up to 45 inches or more, the hilts had to be at least 9 inches to counterbalance such a long blade. The crossguard's length also helped in distributing weight." (William J. McPeak. "For a Swordsmen with Muscle as Well as Skill, Two Hands Could be Better Than One". Military History, Oct 2001, Vol. 18. Issue 4, p 24).
